Shop for California Desert paintings by Joy Collier - these desert paintings were painted in oil and on location (in plein aire) during the late 1990's.
These paintings are very special to me, I will never work in this way again but they gave me the in-depth knowlege of form that I now possess.
Art created from many trips to Red Rock Canyon State Park and Death Valley National Park in California.
My desert paintings were created in plein aire (that simply means that they were painted on location standing on the side of the road fighting the elements (wind, sun, etc..). For many years I would hook up my tent trailer and visit these two beautiful parks.
Two of my Red Rock Canyon series won the1993 Art of California Discovery Awards Gold & Silver Winners in Traditional Painting – Judges included Robert Barrett executive director of the Fresno Art Museum, Harvey Jones senior curator of the Oakland Museum, Ilene Susan Fort associate curator at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
